Having finally plucked up the courage to order a JDM watch from Japan (and having spent a ridiculous amount of time tracking the parcel!) I have spent the last few months living with a Promaster logo version of the BM6400 on my wrist which I was (and continue to be) very pleased with – I have finally received my PMD56 with green face and so far I’M SO PLEASED WITH IT.
As you can see from the pictures, to the eye they are very similar in many respects, similar clean face, size and chapter markings with a few significant differences:
The PMD56 has sapphire crystal, duratect titanium case, bracelet etc and radio controlled time management (albeit in a japanese frequency – easily handled though with the fantastic JJY simulator app on iPhone – I should add that once I have been able to pick up signal in Sussex)
To say it is lighter than the stainless steel BM6400 would be an understatement and so far the scratch resistance of the duratect coating has proven to be quite formidable.
Anyway, just a quick post as when researching my purchase I couldn’t find much by way of photographic comparison of these two models so thought I’d share for anyone else out there who may be on the path I’ve trodden.
[UPDATE JULY 2016: nearly 2 years later and this watch is wearing BRILLIANTLY.
Seldom has it left my wrist, I’ve worn it in all weather conditions and during all manner of commercial and leisure activities. I’ve received many compliments about the subtle green face which in some lights and angles looks almost black. The sapphire crystal face shown no visible signs of wear and the bracelet is still in very good condition. If you’re undecided about acquiring a Citizen PMD56-2951 all I can tell you is that there is one happy owner right here.
